Visitors to Llandudno are set to be treated to discount at certain small businesses in the town thanks to a new loyalty card.

The town's Chamber of Trade have developed the Llandudno discount card which will give visitors up to 10 per cent off at selected stores.

The discount card will be available at certain hotels, bed and breakfasts and the Visitor information Centre for guests to use when they visit the coastal town.

Chamber of Trade's David Longworth, Santander business development manager, devised the scheme and said after 18 months of getting it organised he was excited to see the card hitting the streets.

Mr Longworth said: "We are excited about this. We are hoping people come to Llandudno and don't just stick to the high street, but go to other little stores.

"We hope this card helps them find these places (small businesses) when they come on holiday. People want to see something different from what they have usually."

The scheme was a follow on from the work done with the Healthy High Streets Programme. This involved a competition for schools to design the picture used on the discount card.

The winner was Kian Ames from Ysgol San Soir. Santander awarded a prize to the winning school of £150 and Boots gave Kian vouchers worth £30.

Eileen Burrows, president of the chamber, along with Sammy Hoylan, Chloe Grogan - managers of McDonalds - and Christian Algieri raised £300 towards the cost of producing the new cards and key fobs.

The scheme will start with the St Georges Hotel and is supported by Conwy County Borough Council (CBCC) with the card designed by Foxlight Creative.

The discount card, as well as a map outlining what businesses are involved, will be available from Monday.

Any business can come onboard with the scheme as long as they are signed up with the chamber of trade.

An annual subscription to be a part of the Llandudno-based group only costs £20 which goes towards keeping the scheme sustainable.

Ms Burrows said the group was hoping to see more business come on board.

She added: "We want to help small businesses in Llandudno so it is important as many sign up as possible.

"This will be a great demonstration of what happens when we all work together."
