ONE of the producers of the ground breaking BBC TV Blue Planet II series was the guest speaker at St David’s College.

Sarah Conner, who was an assistant producer on the series, talked at the college's speech day about overcoming the challenges of being dyslexic and achieving her goals in both her education and career despite people telling her she couldn’t achieve them.

She also took the opportunity to show a video featuring Sir David Attenborough's warning against the dangers of polluting the oceans with plastics and other human waste.

Ms Connor passed all her GCSE’s and attained all her a-levels with marks good enough to allow her to study biochemistry at St Andrew’s University.

She then went on to complete a post graduate degree in ecological studies at Oxford and then achieved a Phd in biochemistry at the University of Dundee.

A spokesperson for St David’s College said: “Around 50 per cent of our pupils are dyslexic and they are given extra support.

"Sarah’s speech and her philosophy that dyslexia is just a different learning style and this fits in well with our ethos.”
