SP Energy Networks is the latest company to sign up as a sponsor for this year's Conwy Sports Awards.

The company, which owns and manages the underground cables and overhead power lines bringing electricity into homes or businesses, will sponsor the 2018 Coach of the Year award.

Nominations are now open to vote for the best athletes and sporting teams in Conwy county.

They are designed to recognise and honour the talented sportspeople, clubs, coaches and volunteers in the county.

Categories open for voting are: junior sportsman and woman; young volunteer; special achievement; senior sportsman and woman; senior sports team and coach; services to sport and event of the year.

The county boasts a number of competitors in numerous sports competing on a national and international stage.

Past winners have included Deganwy rower Becca Chin and Colwyn Bay’s international squash star Emily Whitlock.

SP Energy Networks is set to invest £1.1 billion into electricity networks across North Wales, Merseyside, Cheshire and North Shropshire between now and 2023.

They are dedicated to delivering a safe and reliable electricity supply to all 1.5 million customers in the SP Manweb licence area 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Their investment will not only strengthen and secure the network to cope with the ever growing demand for electricity, it will also allow power generated from renewable sources to come back into the network from a variety of supply points.

Nominations for the 2018 awards can be made at www.conwy.gov.uk/en/Resident/Leisure-sport-and-health/Leisure-Development/Sports-Awards-2018.aspx, with entries closing on Friday, September 21.

The awards ceremony will be held at Venue Cymru on Friday, November 23.
