THE Original Factory Shop branch in Colwyn Bay is set to close this month as part of a company restructuring plan.

The shop in Station Road, is scheduled to close on Wednesday August 22. It is one of 32 of the company’s stores across the UK which is slated for closure.

One shopper at the store said she was really upset it was to be closed as she bought many bargains there over the years.

Another was able to buy a quantity of drinking glasses for a birthday party in her garden.

The company which owns the chain, reported a 3.7 per cent drop in revenue from a general slump in trading this year and last year. It stated business performance had deteriorated significantly during 2017 and early 2018.

The news of the closure of the Original Factory Shop comes a fortnight after Poundworld in the town shut its doors.

Mayor of Colwyn Bay, cllr Steve Williams said: “It is a shame we are losing another town centre shop, it is disheartening.

"I hope and believe the shop won’t be empty for long. I’ve noticed independent shops are keeping their doors open while national chains are shutting down.”

In recent months a number of High Street names such as Toys R Us, Maplins, the Carphone Warehouse, Marks and Spencers, Carpetright , Poundworld and others have either closed outlets or stopped trading entirely.
