LLANDUDNO's all-weather lifeboat, the William F Yates received two emergency calls during a planned training exercise.
While on passage from Llandudno to Beaumaris on Monday evening, for a joint exercise with the town's inshore RNLI Atlantic 85 lifeboat, the William F Yates was diverted by Holyhead Coastguards to assist a capsized kayaker in Puffin Sound between Anglesey and Puffin Island.
The lifeboat arriving on the scene within minutes of the call, and the RNLI crew found that the kayaker had just been taken aboard a passing angling boat while his craft had been retrieved by another boat.
Both kayaker and kayak were transferred to the William F Yates whose crew checked him over before passing him and his craft over to the Beaumaris lifeboat, which landed both ashore safe and sound.
Both lifeboats subsequently reverted to the original task and conducted joint manoeuvres north of Puffin Island.
After the conclusion of the exercises while the William F Yates was sailing back to Llandudno she was again called by the Coastguards and diverted, this time to a reported incident off Penrhyn Bay.
However, after a thorough search of local waters nothing was found amiss, and the lifeboat was released to return to her station and be recovered into the lifeboat house.
