A BUSY public walking and cycling bridge in Llanddulas has become "dangerous" after being left to fall into disrepair.

The bridge which runs over the River Dulas near the ocean in Llanddulas has been in place for more than 20 years and hs been left to fall into disrepair with planks of wooden planks coming up and handrails coming loose.

Cones placed on the lifting planks to prevent people from tripping are thrown into the river below leaving a tripping hazard on the bridge.

Cyclists are also proving a hazard on the bridge, ignoring signs to get off their bike and walk, instead riding over and nearly hitting walkers.

Llanddulas resident, Robert Jones, has lived in the area for more than 40 years and said it has never been this bad.

Mr Jones said: "Someone is going to get killed. There have been five accidents already, it is an absolute disgrace.

"It is a dangerous bridge.

"All the wooden planks are coming up, while the sides and hand rails are coming lose. Then you get cyclists coming over the bridge at horrendous speeds."

The 77-year-old goes over the bridge every morning as part of his daily walk and said he has to be careful when crossing.

Conwy County Borough Councillor (CCBC), for the Llanddulas area, Keith Eeles, said the bridge is a concern and he has raised the issue to his fellow members.

However he said he was still waiting to see officers come out and access the bridge and provide a report on the situation.

He said: "The whole bridge needs to be accessed. The safety of the bridge needs to be addressed as it is a tripping hazard.

"We put cones out and people keep throwing them into the river so I have to go and fish them out."

Mr Jones said he had made contact with both the community and county council and was yet to have a response on what was happening with the bridge.
