A 23-year-old man who wanted to go to jail got his wish at a weekend court.
John Roberts of Seaview Road, Colwyn Bay, pleaded guilty to stealing a bottle of Jack Daniels and two bottles of vodka, altogether worth £82 from the ASDA store at Kinmel Bay on Friday.
He was already on a 12-week suspended sentence imposed earlier this month for fraud after using a contactless card he found in a purse.
David Mainstone, prosecuting at Llandudno, said the ASDA theft had been spotted on CCTV.
Nia Dawson, defending, said Roberts had a drug addiction but had been waiting for a methadone script for more than six months.
She added: “He feels a period of custody will help him to detox."
The suspended sentence was activated with an additional six weeks for the latest theft – making 18 weeks in total.
