A ROAD was forced to close overnight following a gas leak.

The incident happened on Llanelian Road, Old Colwyn. Wales & West Utilities were alerted to reports of a smell of gas in the area yesterday (Tuesday, September 25) and a engineer was sent to the scene. North Wales Police also attended.

Steve Watts, Wales & West Utilities Area Business Manager for North Wales, said: "We worked through the night in Old Colwyn to repair a leak on a gas pipe running beneath Llanelian Road. The repair is now finished and we have partially reopened Dolwen Road.

"We now need to fill in the holes that we have dug, and so we can do this safely, and to give the new road surface time to set, traffic lights will be in place along Dolwen Road at its junction with Llanelian Road.

"Barring any unforeseen circumstances, we expect to fully re-open the road tomorrow morning (Thursday).

“We would like to thank the local community and road users for their patience while we worked to repair this leak.

"We appreciate that working on roads such as this is not ideal, but it was essential that we fixed this leak now, in order to continue to provide a safe and reliable supply of gas to homes and businesses."
