TWO Llandudno Junction ladies will proudly walk along Whitehall on Remembrance Sunday bearing a wreath they made to commemorate the unremembered members of the Labour Corps who served in the First World War.

Mel Lewis and Sue Jones of Llandudno Junction Community Club will be carrying a unique wreath, made by members of a knitting group which meets there. Mayor of Comwy Cllr Sam Cotton took part in the cutting out and sewing of the poppies.

Conwy town cllr Bill Chapman said: “Many of the Labour Corps’ members died, but their contributions are rarely acknowledged today. “I am delighted that Mel and Sue, who do so much for our community will have the honour of representing our area on this anniversary Remembrance Sunday”.

The Labour Corps was formed to relieve front line units from labouring tasks and Llandudno historian Adrian Hughes has uncovered the names of seven local men who died while serving with the Labour Corps.
