A couple were urged on Friday by a judge to think “very carefully” about whether their relationship was good for either of them.

Judge Timothy Petts at Caernarfon crown court said domestic abuse victim Pauline Parry was “confused in her own mind as to what she wants”.

Lee Thomas, aged 37, of Abergele Road, Colwyn Bay, was jailed for 16 months but no restraining order made after he admitted controlling behaviour.

Prosecutor Gareth Roberts said Miss Parry had been the victim of a previous abusive relationship and had a serious heart condition. Thomas’s attitude was alleged to have worsened since he had to perform CPR on her.

Mr Roberts said Thomas would check Miss Parry’s mobile phone and verbally and physically abuse her.

The victim told the judge: "Lee is the love of my life.”

Elen Owen, defending, said Thomas, a former builder who needed to stop drinking, accepted the impact of his behaviour on the victim.

Judge Petts said there was a “worrying trend” of offences against partners or family members. Miss Parry was “vulnerable”.
