EX-SERVICEMEN and women, politicians and civic leaders were among those who yesterday (Friday) attended the official opening of Woody’s Lodge.

Based in Colwyn Bay, this is a “come in for a chat” facility intended as a hub for former members of the armed forces and emergency services from North Wales.

It’s in Eirias Park and will be open most days for veterans and their families, offering tea and biscuits, someone to talk to – and, when it’s needed, advice and support.

The support can include help to fill in official forms or when seeking official help.

The facility is already established in South Wales, named after Paul Woodward, a Penarth-born member of the SBS who lost his life in a training exercise in 2012 prior to returning to Afghanistan.

Present yesterday was Dr David Trotman, a pathologist with a career in health and social welfare, who is the inspiration and chairman of the charity.

Also in attendance were Clwyd West MP David Jones and Assembly Member Darren Millar.
