A jewellery store which has helped create wedding rings for the British Royal Family has opened in Llandudno.

Clogau opened its second store along the North Wales coastline last Saturday having opened a store in Bangor just a week earlier.

The store will replace the site previously occupied by Gregory's, which was operated by Greg Nary, one of North Wales most respected and well established independent jewellers.

Following his decision to retire, Mr Nary approached Clogau managing director Ben Roberts to discuss options for his stores having sold the brand for more than 20 years.

The acquisition of both sites adds to Clogau’s increasing store portfolio, something Mr Roberts said was part of his multi-channel vision for the brand.

He said: “There has been a downturn in footfall on the high street but we’re confident that a number of strategically placed Clogau stores will deliver a number of tiered and parallel objectives that are at the core of my vision for business.

"Firstly, it’s a simple, effective and profitable brand building exercise. This will, in turn, instil, confidence in our customers and retailers.

"Secondly, it increases our presence on the high street which also makes us accessible to more customers. We’re committed to growing Clogau as a truly omni-channel jewellery brand.

“Finally, it means so much to grow the brand within Wales. While it’s exciting to see Clogau grow globally, we’re still a family run business rooted in the local community. It gives me great pleasure to see the brand thriving where it began almost thirty years ago.”

Every Clogau piece is inspired by a wonderful story and contains rare gold from the Clogau St David’s mine in Snowdonia.

It is the same gold that has been used to create wedding rings for some members of the British Royal family for nearly 100 years - the first in 1923 through to the most recent royal weddings of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and HRH Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank.

Llandudno is well known for its association with Lewis Carroll’s Alice. In tribute to this much -loved character, Clogau has created ‘Magical Alice’, a number of beautiful pieces inspired by the adventures of Alice in ‘Through the Looking Glass’.

These pieces will be available in the Llandudno store and through Clogau direct.

Clogau, sent out a limited number of VIP Golden Tickets to its loyal customers, with a chance to claim a beautiful Kensington bracelet created in association with Historic Royal Palaces
