New byelaws have been crated by the Welsh Government which will see Conwy council be able to better manage flood risks.

Consultation is currently underway to allow the public to have their say on the changes to the byelaws.

The new land drainage byelaws would require consent to be given by Conwy County Borough Council (CCBC) for certain work around ordinary watercourses like streams and culverts (pipes and other structures that allows water to flow under a roads, trails and railways).

This could include things like building over a culvert or putting up a wall too close to a stream: activities which might increase flood risk.

Under the changes will see Conwy County Borough Council (CCBC) have raised concerns their current powers under the act limit the ability to manage flood risk because certain activities near ordinary watercourses don’t currently need consent.

The Byelaws have been approved by the Welsh Government and now CCBC is proposing to adopt them, and is asking the public to complete a short survey to give their feedback.
