The Cayley Promenade has been illuminated once again by the Tree of Lights.

Crowds filled the Cayley Promenade for the special event, organised by the Rotary Club of Rhos on Sea, which saw Colwyn Bay mayor, Stephen Williams, flick the switch on the tree as well as a number of musical acts including the Beulah Brass and Cor Meibion Colwyn.

This is the 20th year the tree on the Cayley Promenade has been decorated with lights, provided by the Rotary club, in memory of loved ones.

People can purchase a light for the tree with all proceeds going to Llandudno-based charity, St David's Hospice.

The Tree of Lights has raised more than £209,000, with £26,000 raised just last Christmas.

About £1466 was collected at the event on Sunday evening alone which will go to the overall total to be presented to St David's Hospice.

Rotary President Clive Hampton said: "I want to thank all those who came on Sunday supporting the event making it such a successful ceremony.

"Every penny donated through Rotary will go to St. David's Hospice supporting the good work they do in our community. It is though much more than fundraising.

"Most of us have lost someone close and the opportunity to commemorate and dedicate time of remembrance is so important and in doing so at this time of year especially, it does bring some comfort to our lives.

"It is an important event to us and at the same time supporting this worthy local cause. Diolch i bawb am ein cefnogi."

Donations can still be made to the Tree of Lights appeal but cutting out and filling in a coupon from the Pioneer or contacting St David's Hospice or the Rotary Club of Rhos-on-Sea.
