MORE than 50 disabled primary aged schoolchildren will compete in a mini paralympics in North Wales as the Panathlon Foundation hosts its first ever event in North Wales.

The Primary Panathlon, comprises a series of team challenges to develop sporting skills in five to 11 year-olds with a range of special educational needs.

Tony Waymouth, operational manager for Panathon UK, said: “This marks the fact Panathlon is making a breakthrough in Wales, and it gives a boost to children with disabilities. Hopefully this is the first of many such events in Wales.”

The day event will also be helped run by young leaders from Llandrillo College this week.

The Panathlon Foundation (charity no 1072638) has been delivering competitive opportunities for young disabled people since 1999. Over 17,700 disabled young people take part every year. The charity invests more than £600,000 in competitions, sports equipment and coaching for young disabled people per year.
