Conwy's most popular chocolatiers have added a new aspect to their already successful business.

Baravelli's have now got a licensed micro-distillery upstairs from their chocolate shop and have already produced their first batch of alcohol to be sold to the public.

Cocoacello was developed by Mark Baravelli based on a limoncello recipe from his father.

The choclate version, adpated from the recipe, has previously been given out as a special taster gift to loyal customers around Christmas time.

But after both Mr Baravelli and his wife Emma, who both run the store and Conwy Distillery upstairs, saw how popular it had become they decided to expand from simply selling chocolate to adding alcohol to their shelves.

Mr Baravelli said: "The reason we started the distillery is because we used to make Cocoacello at Christmas time. It was really really popular, people kept asking if they could buy a bottle.

"So I approached a local distillery two years ago asking if they could make it. I kept asking if they were going to make it until I thought I would do it myself. I had always wanted to do it."

The first batch of Cocoacello was produced by Merywen Distillery and has already been sold, with the second batch, made from Baravellis on the shelves in the store now.

The chocolate flavoured limoncello will be joined on the shelves by a coffee version this weekend.

Mr Baravelli said he would also look at introducing a range of gins in the new years as well as running classes.

He said: "Gin is really popular at the moment but the bigger companies are pulling the wool over people's eyes and producing gin that isn't gin.

"We want to produce an honest product. People think we are taking the mick saying what does a chocolatier know about gin. But we have gone through all the formalities, got all the correct licences and we will be trained up accordingly."

Baravellis is located on 13 Bangor Road in Conwy.
