A LLANDUDNO high school teacher and his wife will be spending the night on the streets to raise funds for a regional homeless charity.

Dave Sweet and spouse Laura will be taking part in the special fundraising event on Friday, December 7, which will see the pair spend the night “homeless” in support of Chester Aid to The Homeless.

Mr Sweet, who is a teacher at Ysgol John Bright, said: “My wife and I have always given to homeless charities and decided that we wanted to try and do a little bit more to help.

“I’m always really taken aback, when I walk around the cities in the UK, by the massive problem that we have with homelessness in this country.

“Hopefully we can raise awareness and a few quid to boot.”

The couple, who were wed earlier this summer, highlighted the charity’s “invaluable” work as another reason behind their efforts.

Mrs Sweet, who is a Geography teacher at Christleton High School in Chester, stated on her JustGiving page: “On December 7 Dave and I (Laura) will be spending the night on the streets of Chester to support Chester Aid to The Homeless.

“The number of homeless people on our streets has risen 134 per cent since 2010 and 44% of homeless people are diagnosed with mental health conditions.

“We want to do something to support some of the most vulnerable people in our society.”

Mr Sweet is also a coach at Huws Gray Alliance side Holywell Town FC after joining the set-up prior to the season following a glittering playing career across the region.
