LLANDUDNO avoided a JD Welsh Cup banana skin to advance to the fourth round with a 3-1 victory at Briton Ferry.

The JD Welsh Premier League strugglers emerged from the tie with minimal fuss despite going a goal down in the early stages, and manager Iwan Williams will be hoping this morale boost can lead to further success when they travel to Newtown on Saturday night in front of the S4C Sgorio cameras (7.30pm).

Things did not begin well for the visitors and they fell behind on 15 minutes when Tyler Brock produced a sensational strike that gave Shaun Pearson no chance.

This was met by a swift response from Tudno, who got a foothold in the tie and levelled matters after 18 minutes when the versatile Mark Connolly prodded home from close range after some neat build-up play.

The away side were now fully in the ascendancy and they were further rewarded on 27 minutes when another fine spell of possession presented a chance to George Harry, and the energetic forward slotted into the net for his second goal of the season.

After the break saw the visitors given the perfect chance to add to their tally on the hour mark when they were awarded a penalty, and Connolly held his nerve to calmly convert and double their advantage.

Tudno saw out the remainder of the game in relatively comfortable fashion, although they were given a scare on 87 minutes when Gavin Jones was put through on goal to reduce the arrears.

Williams’ men now turn their attentions to improving their hopes of top-flight survival during their weekend trip to the Robins, who come into the game on the back of a shock 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Huws Gray Alliance side Rhyl to exit the cup at the third round stage.
