Hundreds of knights and ladies came from across the kingdom to take part in Conwy's annual Winterfest event.

Wet and windy conditions did not deter participants from taking part in the torch lit parade through the streets of Conwy, taking the town back to its medieval roots.

Event organiser Toby Tunstall said despite the weather the event had one of its biggest turnouts in its nine year history and saw people visit the town from as far away as Wigan.

Mr Tunstall said: "The atmosphere was magical with a very traditional feel to the whole event and it was all free.

"We are so pleased so many visitors joined us for our Winterfest - a number staying in the town especially for the event and many travelling long distances to attend.

"Batala Drummers from Bangor, together with Clerical Error Morris Dancers, fire performers from local group Inferno, the sword fighting Knights of Conwy and carol singing from St. Mary's Church Choir, all added to the fantastic atmosphere.

"We have never called off the event due to bad weather in nine years and we are so pleased that visitors made the effort on Saturday with the wind and rain being so bad during the day."

People have taken to social media to express how much they enjoyed the event on Saturday night describing it as "amazing" and "the best we've been to".

Anna Mj Home, on the Conwy Medieval Christmas Facebook page, said: "It was fantastic, all the work that went into it made it so magical.

"I hope that this event gets bigger and better."

Next year will see the event celebrate it's tenth anniversary. The date for the event has already been set for December 14, 2019.
