Festive fundraisers have the opportunity to hit the icy cold waters of Colwyn Bay this Boxing Day and help raise funds for St David's Hospice.

The annual Colwyn Bay Boxing Dy dip will be on again next Wednesday, starting by Porth Eirias at 11am.

Boxing Day dip organiser, Tom Burke, said: “It is all about having some fun, remembering those who can't be there and helping to raise money for a really good local cause.

“A few years ago myself, Glyn Williams and Ashley Hughes set out on a rainy Boxing Day for a quick dip into the lush tropical waters off Porth Eirias. Since then we have been back every year to blow off our Crimbo cobwebs.

“Glyn's Mum was there for the first one and mightily enjoyed herself by laughing at Glyn looking frozen. Unfortunately, not long after that she passed away suffering with terminal cancer, it apparently made her day to see him ‘enjoy’ the chilly water.

"We have made it our mission to get down there every Boxing Day, in memory of Glyn's Mum and others effected by cancer.

“We hope that the money goes towards helping local people and their families cope with some of the hardest situations they have to face.

"Many people in North Wales will know of St Davids, maybe know someone who has been cared for by the Hospice, or perhaps been there themselves. We know it is a worthy cause that is close to people's hearts.”

St David’s Hospice Community Fundraiser, James Wilde said: “What started out as three friends taking a dip in the sea on Boxing Day to ‘blow away the Christmas cobwebs’ has grown into something special for the people of Colwyn Bay.

“I look forward to seeing pictures from the day and hope everyone has a great time.”

Participants will be responsible for their own health and safety as well as personal property.
