The Colwyn Bay mayor has spent 12 hours on the streets overnight to raise awareness for the homeless.

Councillor Stephen Williams, spent the night in the Peacock's doorway on Station Road, with Llysfaen resident Tina Lewis as they aimed to raise awareness and money for the homeless in the area.

The pair made the night as authentic as possible only collecting sleeping bags and some soup for food from the Soup and Sox van that visits the area every Thursday night at 8pm.

Mr Williams, speaking to the Pioneer after the event, said: "The whole experience was fantastic. I now have a better understanding of what it is like to be homeless.

"Although I'm not homeless and lying there every night, I did one night and am trying to create awareness. There has been great support for it so the message is getting out there so I've done my job.

"The amount of homeless on the street in Colwyn Bay is going up and up and up. You don't know just how many people do it rough night in and night out."

Mr Williams said he spent most of the 12 hours standing up, feeling too vulnerable when he was sitting or lying on the ground.
