A LLANDUDNO photographer has raised more than £11,000 for St David’s Hospice.

In 2011, Carol Thorne who is a member of the University of the Third Age (U3A) photography group in Llandudno, decided to use her talent to raise funds for the hospice. She creates handmade cards with the images she has taken and sells them for a pound each.

Carol is a regular at local fetes and fairs plus, local hotels and businesses, with her stall displaying an array of images including North Wales scenes, flora and fauna. Since she started seven years ago, she has raised £11,040 for St David’s Hospice.

Carol, retired civil servant said: “I love photography and I enjoy walking. My photography gets me out and about to some beautiful places.

“The biggest selling card has an image of a robin which I took whilst on a walk with the U3A group at Aber Falls. In November last year, I sold more than 100 of them in one month.

“My husband is so supportive; he helps me to make the cards. Each one is made by hand, no machinery involved. It’s a pleasure to support St David’s. I know personally how important the care is to the local community.

“I would like to thank all the local people who continue to support me. Lots of my customers are regulars; they’re very loyal and appreciate what I do.”

St David’s Hospice is a charity providing free 24 hour end of care, 365 days a year. It delivers a clinical service alongside emotional, physical and spiritual support. The therapy unit provides patient care, bereavement and counselling services, whilst the Inpatient Unit offers symptom control, respite and end of life care.

James Wilde, Community Fundraiser for St David’s said: “Carol has worked so hard producing stunning cards. Her dedication and endless support for the Hospice really is admirable and much appreciated. On behalf of all our patients and their families and friends, thank you.”
