A PAIR of seagulls, Supergirl and a host of elves elves have made one of the coast's newest Boxing Day traditions the "best so far".

A chance to wash off the Christmas cobwebs saw dippers gather at 10.30 am on the promenade between Porth Eirias and the pier for the fourth annual Colwyn Bay Boxing Day Dip.

Despite starting in 2014 with just the three organisers Glyn Williams, Ashley David Hughes and Tom Burke, the event welcomed more than 200 people eager to take advantage of fair weather by rushing into the waves on Wednesday, December 26.

Mr Burke said: "It was definitely our best so far, the event has gone from strength to strength over the past four years."

Organised with Colwyn Bay Watersports and Commando X Fit Wales, who blasted encouragement from loudspeakers on the shore, the run into the sea was launched the mayor, cllr Steve Williams and raised money for St David's Hospice.

Mr Burke added:"While the dippers their costumes were amazing, I think the best has to be the two women who dressed as seagulls.

"We were really lucky with the weather, and not only were the dippers fantastic but the supporters were great too.

"I'm not sure how much we've raised yet, but we've filled four buckets with donations and expect it to be at least £500."

A crowdfunding page has also raised £185 towards the charity. to donate visit justgiving.com.
