A mum whose car had been described as being driven “all over the road” and had hit parked vehicles was more than four times the alcohol limit, a court heard on Thursday.

Emma Roberts, 37, of Gloddaeth View, Penrhyn Bay, Llandudno, claimed she’d only drunk three glasses of wine, magistrates were told.

Prosecutor James Neary said at Llandudno that the café worker’s breath-alcohol count on the night of December 9 was 150. The legal limit is 35.

Mr Neary said the Peugeot car had no lights illuminated. Police had been alerted by an eyewitness travelling behind her car in Princes Drive, Colwyn Bay.

Roberts pleaded guilty to drink-driving at Rhos on Sea. She was tearful during the case and an eight weeks suspended jail term was imposed with three-months alcohol treatment and a rehabilitation activity.

A three-year ban was imposed and she must pay £200 costs.

Court chairwoman Janet Ellis told Roberts: "You know this offence is extremely serious.”

Defence solicitor Graham Parry said there was a reference, and a letter from Roberts’s GP. She’d had a “dreadful” twelve months including dealing with a tragedy.

“Her life has been turned upside down,” Mr Parry remarked.

The lawyer said she was clearly remorseful for the offence.

A probation officer said Roberts disputed being on Princes Drive and maintained she only crashed after being startled by the blue lights of a police car.

The defendant wanted counselling, the court was told.
