AS MORE than 200 revellers splashed into the sea at Llandudno’s Boxing Day dip, the town’s inshore lifeboat and crew watched over their safety.

The lifeboat, the Dr Barbara Saunderson, stood by on the slipway ready to be launched just in case any of the bathers got into trouble.

In addition other fully equipped lifeboat volunteers were in the water monitoring the activity.

A Llandudno RNLI spokesman said: “Fortunately there were no incidents Although the crew weren’t acting as official safety cover for the event it provided an opportunity for us to both support the local community and reinforce the very important RNLI advice about staying safe around our coast and beaches.”

He added: “The sea is particularly cold this time of year, if you do enter the water unexpectedly the RNLI’s advice is to float on your back for a short time to regain control of your breathing. The natural reaction is to panic, but floating until you are in a position to call for help will give you a much better chance of surviving.”
