MEET the adorable bundle of joy who made Christmas Day extra special for this family.

Wales Sevens rugby player Afon Bagshaw and his partner Harriet Russell, of Llandudno Junction, couldn’t hide their delight as they welcomed into the world daughter Eira Carmel.

Eira was born on Christmas Day at Glan Clwyd Hospital at 8.03am. She weighed eight pounds and eight ounces.  She arrived one week earlier than expected.

RGC player Afon said: “Eira is our first and certainly won’t be our last.

“She was born one week early and I think that’s down to Harriet playing ‘All I want for Christmas is you’ to her while in her tummy.

“With Eira arriving on Christmas Day we feel very blessed and lucky. Not only did we receive the best present ever, we got her a week early.”

The couple knew they were having a little girl as they had done a gender reveal balloon pop.

In terms of picking the name Eira, meaning “snow” in the Welsh language, the new dad added: “I have always loved the name since we first heard it.

“With Eira arriving on Christmas Day we feel very blessed and lucky. Not only did we receive the best present ever, we got her a week early.

“We would like to say thank you to our amazing family and friends for all the support - we are very appreciative.

"I would also like to say thank you to all the staff on maternity unit for looking after us so well. We will be forever grateful.

“We are looking forward to making wonderful memories with Eira.”

Afon, 24, played in the Rugby World Cup Sevens in 2018. In November 2018, he said: “It would be fantastic to earn a full international call-up one day.

“Growing up playing rugby in Wales I think every young player dreams of representing their country.”
