AN ASPIRING Colwyn Bay swimming star and sports scholar will be aiming for further international success with the Welsh national squad later this month.

Zach Speakman, a pupil at Rydal Penrhos school, will be part of the Swim Wales contingent that travels to Luxembourg for an International Meet, taking place between Wednesday, January 23 until Monday 28.

The 16 year old has enjoyed a standout career to date and further enhanced his growing reputation as one of the brightest prospects anywhere in the country at the recent Winter National championships.

Competing against older and more experienced opposition, Zach emerged from the event with two golds, one silver and a bronze.

This feat was even more significant because Zach competed in senior events, with the field primarily consisting of university students.

Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “This represents another exceptional achievement from Zach, who has really come of age in recent months thanks to his sterling commitment to getting better each and every day.

“His experience with the Swim Wales squad has done his confidence and overall development a considerable amount of good, and hopefully he can continue his outstanding form for his country in Luxembourg.”
