ONE of the rising stars of classical music in North Wales will make his return to Rhyl this month.

Following his piano concerto at the Rhyl Music Club's Christmas concert in December, Llandudno's Ellis Thomas will hold his first full recital at Rhyl Town Hall on Wednesday, January 23 as part of the International Concert Series 2018/19 .

Ellis first came to prominence at the club several years ago, as a participant in the Young Musicians Concert and in 2017 where he was the official accompanist for the event.

In December, he played the Rachmaninov Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini with the Welsh Chamber Orchestra, a considerable tribute to his musical development.

The pianist has been attending junior Royal Northern College of Music, enabled him to progress rapidly to incredible maturity, which will be showcased with a diverse programme including the works of Beethoven, Liszt, Chopin, Debussy and more.

He also won first prize in the Rotary International Great Britain and Ireland 2018 Young Musician competition and for the evening's recital he will appear with another promising talent Angelina Dorlin-Barlow, who won the vocal section in the same event at Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh.

The pairing is another example of the music club's commitment over more than 70 years of fostering up-and-coming musicians in North Wales.

To catch the prodgious talents of both artists in their ascendancy, head to Rhyl Town Hall on Wednesday,January 23 at 7.30pm.
