A COLWYN Bay attraction is celebrating an "outstanding" Winter period that has seen visitor figures rise by 55 per cent.

This Winter, 6485 visitors walked through the gates at the Welsh Mountain Zoo, compared to 4189 in 2017.

The figures take in from the beginning of December until the second week in January.

The zoo has welcomed both visitors from the area as well as those from further afield keen to explore the zoo’s grounds and visit the various enclosures.

Jennifer Jesse, director of operations and administration at the Welsh Mountain Zoo, said: “We’ve been amazed by the numbers we’ve had during these last couple of months, which are considerably higher than the same period last year.

"These figures highlight the fact that the Zoo really is a fantastic place to visit throughout the year and each season presents a unique visitor experience. We look forward to building on these figures further still and welcoming more people through our doors."
