A youth is in custody after stabbing a fellow pupil at Eirias High School.

North Wales Police were called at about 10.15am on Monday morning to reports of an assault on one pupil by another at Eirias High School in Colwyn Bay.

A boy was taken to hospital with injuries which were not deemed to be life changing. He has now been discharged.

A youth is now currently in custody assisting police with inquiries following the stabbing.

Detective Chief Inspector Sion Williams said: “Thankfully incidents of this nature are extremely rare in North Wales and we are working with the school and partner agencies as part of the ongoing investigation.”

Eirias High School headteacher, Sarah Sutton, said she encouraged any parents or students with concerns surrounding the matter to contact the school.

Mrs Sutton said: "The school has resolved and dealt with the isolated incident that occurred yesterday.

"The school continues to work with North Wales Police as part of their ongoing investigations.

"Parents are encouraged to contact the school directly should they have any concerns about this isolated incident, or indeed any other area of concern."
