A 15-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder following an alleged stabbing at Eirias High School, Colwyn Bay.

The boy was due to appear at Youth Court in Llandudno this morning.

North Wales Police, in a statement, said: "A 15 year old boy will be appearing before Llandudno Youth Court this morning (Wednesday) charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon in a school and in public places, following a stabbing incident at Eirias High School in Colwyn Bay on February 11."

Police had earlier said that a boy was taken to hospital following the incident but has since been discharged.

Eirias High School accommodates about 1,400 pupils across years 7 to sixth form and was recently rated yellow in the Welsh Government's colour coded rating scheme.

Headteacher, Sarah Sutton, said: “The school has resolved and dealt with the isolated incident that occurred yesterday.

“The school continues to work with North Wales Police as part of their ongoing investigations.

“Parents are encouraged to contact the school directly should they have any concerns about this isolated incident, or indeed any other area of concern.”

Detective Chief Inspector Sion Williams said: “Thankfully incidents of this nature are extremely rare in North Wales."
