WOMEN stormed the catwalk to send an important message about mental health.

The Casual Catwalk event, which aimed to raise awareness, took place at Rhyl Town Council on Sunday and featured 'Ray's Angels'.

Rhyl Journal:

Money was raised for Vale of Clwyd Mind.

Rhyl photographer Ray Worsnop, who organised the show, said: "The response was brilliant.

"All the ladies, who I have photographed, now call themselves a family.

Rhyl Journal:

"Stephen Moss-Ennis wrote a poem for each individual and read it from behind the curtain. It was really effective.

Rhyl Journal:

"The support has been amazing - we have been supported by 50 plus businesses in and around Rhyl."

One of Ray's Angels Beth Hopper wrote a song about her Her Mental Health issues and performed it on stage on the day.

Musical Meatballs in Mind also put on a powerful performance and sang three songs.

Rhyl Journal:

Ray added: "When they took their jackets off and saw the words on their t-shirts, audiences were in tears. They were having to comfort each other."

Cllr Win Mullen-James, mayor of Rhyl, attended the event. Chris Ruane, Vale of Clwyd MP, wrote a letter in support and made a donation.

Rhyl Journal:

The event attracted about 40 guests. All who took part in the show have mental health issues but were determined to stand on stage and deliver their message.

Rhyl Journal:

Ray said the idea of taking his models to the catwalk was inspired by the success of Sabina Rose Palmer from Rhyl. He photographed Sabina and she was featured in a 28-page spread in a New York magazine supplement called International Face.

Rhyl Journal:

Sabina Rose Palmer, Michelle Anderson and Suzy Q Buck all took a leading role in the event.
