Grŵp Llandrillo Menai has acquired Mochdre-based private training provider North Wales Training.

The transfer of ownership marks further growth for Grŵp Llandrillo Menai and will enable the Grŵp to develop its offering in the commercial sector to serve the requirements of employers across North Wales and beyond. This will take the Grŵp’s turnover above £70m.

Grŵp Llandrillo Menai, which was established in 2012, currently employs 2,000 staff and delivers courses to around 21,000 students, including over 1,500 higher education students, across Anglesey, Conwy, Denbighshire and Gwynedd.

It currently operates the Work Based Learning Consortium of which North Wales Training is a part.

Dafydd Evans, chief executive officer of Grŵp Llandrillo Menai, said: “It has been part of our corporate strategy for some time to develop our portfolio in this way.

"We have a long established relationship with North Wales Training and we know that they are very good indeed at what they do, fully deserving their excellent reputation and high profile, therefore this move feels like a natural progression to us.

“Following this announcement it is very much ‘business as usual’ for North Wales Training employees.

"It is critical that the company continues to deliver on its current contracts.

"However, the Grŵp’s purchase of North Wales Training will allow for more growth and opportunities in the future.

"As the new ownership arrangements bed in there will be a chance to define a new strategy for the company, building on the experience and growth of the team.”

North Wales Training’s existing management and staffing structure will remain the same and the company will be governed by a board of directors, chaired by Grŵp Llandrillo Menai board member, Alun Thomas.

Grŵp Llandrillo Menai worked with Cardiff-based Lexington Corporate Finance and Capital Law to negotiate and structure the transaction and manage it through to completion, ensuring an outcome that was mutually agreed by all parties and avoiding any disruption to North Wales Training employees or their learners.

Prior to the transfer of ownership, North Wales Training was led by Directors Mike Roberts, George Newson and the late Greg Pike, who passed away in late 2018.

Mr Roberts said: “We’re proud to be able to transfer the ownership of North Wales Training to Grŵp Llandrillo Menai who has an excellent track record in delivering high quality training provision in North Wales.

"The Grŵp appreciates the culture of the company and has the experience and vision to build on the foundations my co-Directors and I put in place.”
