A NUMBER of farmers and landowners undertaking controlled burning has sparked an increase of calls to the fire service.

North Wales Fire and Rescue service are urging those - who are undertaking controlled burning - to warn them in advance.

The fire service were called on Tuesday, February 26 to gorse fire in Llannefydd. Crews were sent from Abergele, Colwyn Bay and Denbigh.

This was across 5,000 sq metres.

A spokesperson from the fire and rescue service said: "This was controlled burning. We do need people to tell us if they are carrying out controlled burning."

The fire service tweeted on Wednesday, February 27: "We are aware of the #ControlledBurning fires in the #ConwyValley today.

"Please do not ring us about these incidents. Thanks for your assistance #Rowen #TalyBont #Talycafn #SychnantPass #Conwy."

On Tuesday, controlled burning took place in the open on Rhyd Y Foel Mountain.

One crew from Abergele attended and one officer attended.
