Three gold medals in this season alone has highlighted a Rhos-on-Sea schoolgirl as a future world class sailor.

Bethany who is a member of the North Wales Regional Topper Squad has sailed since she was 10 and began her love of sailing at Colwyn Bay Watersports based in Porth Eirias.

This season she has received three Gold medals for her sailing in the Club Youth Racing Circuit, the British Youth Sailing Welsh Regional Championships and the RYA On-Board North Wales Regatta.

Her success has not gone unnoticed earning her an award from the John Merricks Sailing Trust which saw her win a new 'topper' boat.

The Trust was set up in the name of Olympic sailor John Merricks who was tragically killed in a car accident to help young sailors who display similar drive, talent and commitment to fulfil their dreams.

Colwyn Bay Watersports was set up in 2012 as a community watersports centre and over the years has successfully introduced many young people, including Bethany, and schools to the sport.

Taffy Osborne, Colwyn Bay Watersports director, said: "We are delighted that Bethany has achieved so much is such as short time.

"When she began on the All Afloat programme two years ago, we could quickly see that she was one of the young people who fell in love with sailing.

"We are very pleased to have been here at the start of her journey and here for many other young people looking to discover their passion.

"We hope she enjoys racing her new boat.”
