A LLANDUDNO drama and music teacher has had a once in a lifetime opportunity to have a one to one singing lesson from a West End star.

Kirsty Jones, who teaches at Ysgol John Bright, and a former member of Llandudno Youth and Music Theatre group won the lesson with Kerry Ellis in a charity auction at a gala dinner celebrating the group’s 40 years. The lesson was donated by the group’s patron and former member, Mark Puddle, a theatre producer and creative director at the internationally renowned West End Stage summer school at the Guildhall in London.

Kirsty said about meeting her idol: “As part of group I had the honour of singing solo in front at the Queen and Prince Philip, but this was far more nerve wracking.”

During the session, Kirsty sang I’m Not That Girl from Wicked and I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserables. She was then given expert guidance and direction from Kerry to develop and enhance how each song could be portrayed.

Kirsty now plans to use the skills and techniques she gained in the lesson, back at school as well as at Stagenotes, the groups Saturday morning workshop, where she is a tutor.

Llandudno Youth and Music Theatre is now in rehearsing for its 41st annual production, Oklahoma, to be performed at Venue Cymru in July.
