A SURPRISE performance by a male voice choir delighted a blind veteran on his 102nd birthday in Llandudno.

Thomas Elfed Davies is a resident at the Blind Veterans UK centre who fought in Normandy in World War 2, was celebrating his birthday when the Maelgwyn Male Voice choir turned up and sang Happy Birthday and Calon Lan surprising him and members of his family and leaving everyone feeling very emotional.

His son, Clement said: “Dad was very thankful to everyone at Blind Veterans who organised the surprise and for everything they have done for him. Dad had a smile from ear to ear and I can’t thank Blind Veterans UK enough, they made the special for him.

“He was very touched and Blind Veterans UK have done so much for him and today just showed another example of that.”

Thomas served with the Gordon Highlanders, landing four days after D Day. He fought in the and was involved in Operation Juniper which was the taking of Hill 112 near Caen which was one of the bloodiest battles of World War 2 W2. The Germans said whoever controlled Hill 112 controls Normandy. He continued through France, Belgium and Germany and fought in the battle of Clere in Germany and ended in Hamburg. He was de mobbed in 1946 as a private.
