A “CURIOUSER and curiouser” display has introduced Denbighshire school pupils to the magical world of Wonderland.

A tantalising taster for what’s to come in Colwyn Bay’s Magic Light Productions’ pop-up’ theatrical performances of ‘The Magic of Wonderland’ for Enrichfest 2019 in May and June has seen characters from Lewis Caroll’s seminal work s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland pay a visit to schools across the county.

Pupils have requested the colourful 154 year old tale as part of the council’s curriculum enrichment initiative, Enrichfest 2019 which has seen Alice, the White Rabbit and the Queen of Hearts arrive in full costume to 15 Denbigshire schools including Ysgol Dewi Sant, in Rhyl, Bodnant Community School in Prestatyn and Cefn Meiriadog and St Asaph Infants welcome.

Rhyl Journal:

Magic Light Productions’ Libby Edwards, who played Alice, said: “We can’t wait until May to tumble down the rabbit hole in Denbighshire schools’ ‘pop-up’ theatrical performances of The Magic of Wonderland. Whatever happens on stage, it’s going to be amazing and something to celebrate - I’m sure we’ll all be grinning like Cheshire Cats.”

As part of the visit the Queen of Hearts delivered her right royal batches of heart-shaped shortbread biscuits for the “Who Stole the Tarts?” schools’ biscuit decorating competition, provided courtesy of The Pudding Compartment in Flint.

Pupils enjoyed making heart-shaped sandwiches for their brilliantly bonkers Mad Hatter’s tea party, building towers and writing postcards to Alice and Dinah, Alice’s pet cat.

The visits also included primary schools Ysgol Trefnant, Pendref, Ysgol y Parc and in Denbigh, Carrog and Caer Drewyn in Corwen, Borthyn Llanbedr, and Rhos Street in Ruthin, as well as secondary school Dinas Brân in Llangollen.

Denbighshire Curriculum Enrichment is an initiative run by the county council to enhance pupils’ learning.
