THE opportunity to check blood pressure will be offered to anyone in Llandudno by the town’s Rotary Club.

Working with the Stroke Association the Rotarians are promoting Blood Pressure Awareness Day.

Dr. Ashok Harshey and his team will be at the community room of St John’s Church, Mostyn Street in the centre of Llandudno on Saturday March 30, from 10.00am until 2.00pm, waiting to take the blood pressure of whoever comes in.

A spokesman for Llandudno Rotary club said: “You will be given the reading and the re-assurance that you’re fine, or advised to seek the help of your own doctor.

It’s entirely up to you to follow or ignore that advice but you should know, there are 152,000 strokes in the UK every year, often it could have been prevented, the effects can be devastating and even fatal.”

High blood pressure usually has no symptoms, but it is a contributing factor in around half of all strokes, making it the biggest single risk factor for stroke.

Your heart pumps blood all around your body through your arteries. Blood pressure is a measure of how strongly the blood presses against the walls of your arteries. If this pressure is too high it puts a strain on your arteries and your heart, which makes it more likely that you will have health problems such as stroke, a heart attack, or kidney disease.
