CONWY High Street was packed with visitors and residents buying plants and seeds in the town’s medieval Seed Fair.

The event last week marks the start of this year's tourist season. This was the 29th year the Seed Fair has been organized by Conwy Beekeepers. The Seed Fair and the Honey Fair, were founded by Royal Charter of King Edward 1 in the 1290s.

Peter McFadden, secretary of Conwy Bee Keepers, said: “It was refreshing to see the town so full of people, and it marked the beginning of the tourist season.

“We had more than 50 stalls, selling a huge variety of plants and seeds. One stall had nearly 50 varieties of seed potatoes for sale, home grown seeds from the Snowdonia Society; Incredible Edible Conwy who had a big stall, and many other specialist plant stalls and farmers market stalls.”

“With so many people bustling around in the town the cafes and shops must have had a boost as well.”

More than £650 was raised in a collection towards Bees for Development, to help people in the developing world become self reliant through beekeeping.

Peter added: “We are organizing the Conwy Honey Fair on Friday September 13.”
