A PETITION has been launched to save a Llandudno music shop from closure.

It is understood that HMV is unable to continue trading in its current unit on Mostyn Street.

In February, the shop avoided closure after the chain was sold to Canadian retailer Sunrise Records.

A number of unprofitable stores across the country shut, resulting in more than 400 redundancies.

A statement, posted on the petition started by HMV Llandudno, said: "HMV in Llandudno has been a top performer within the brand for nearly 15 years and has recently learned that our store is to close down.

"The store is a staple of Llandudno and loved by its customers and staff alike and the town would suffer from its loss.

"We are consistently within the top 20 stores despite our small size and have a loyal customer base who shop here regularly.

"The closure is not due to our financial success as we have excelled in that area.

"Another reason is that the nearest store of its kind to us is 50 miles away.

"Our location is a huge part of our success due to repeat custom from, not only the local community, but the surrounding areas as far as Anglesey and Mid Wales.

"Whilst remaining in the unit we are currently in is not an option, we are hopeful that with enough support the company will relocate the store within the town of Llandudno."
