A POD of playful dolphins joined lifeboat volunteers on a training session in Llandudno.

On Monday night, Llandudno Lifeboat Crew were treated to spectacular dolphin escort while on return from exercise in Llandudno Bay.

The impressive video was shot by volunteer Andy Jones.

The RNLI volunteer Crew were aboard the all-weather lifeboat William F Yates.

The team described the sight as the "perfect end" to their training exercise.

Andy, who has been a volunteer for 13 years, said: "It was great to see such a large number of dolphins. I have seen them quite a few times before but I have never seen them quite so playful.

"This is one of the perks of being part of the crew. Over the years I have started to notice an increase in the amount of dolphins around our coast which shows the waters can support great wildlife.

"It is great to be able to record the dolphins and allow locals who would rarely get the chance to witness what is in our waters.

"The reaction to the video has been great and it has attracted a lot of attention with thousands of shares and likes."

Volunteer crew member Luke Heritage said: "We do from time to time enjoy sightings of one or two dolphins but to witness so many as the crew did last night is just amazing".

The dolphins followed the boat home as it approached the beach for recovery.
