TWO Colwyn Bay sailing stars have received a national call up ahead of a prestigious competition.

Freddie MacLaverty and Keira Luke, year six pupils at Rydal Penrhos school, will be part of the Wales squad that will compete at the Eric Twiname championship, which will take place at Rutland Water from May 4 to 6.

The duo have impressed as part of their involvement with the RYA Cymru Wales youth set up, and have honed their skills further as part of their winter training programme.

Freddie and Keira will be competing together in the double handed RS Feva Class and will form part of the Welsh team who will be defending their title, having won it twice in the last three years.

This junior sailing event is supported by the Eric Twiname Trust and the RYA, and it is an invitation only competition.

Prep school head Alison Hind, said: “This is going to be another superb experience for Freddie and Keira, who have worked incredibly hard over the winter months to ready themselves for what is sure to be a busy summer on the water.

“They work exceptionally well together and have progressed their skills considerably both with our thriving sailing department and with the Welsh squad, and to receive such a prestigious national selection is a well-deserved and fantastic achievement.”
