A MAJOR chain is set to leave Conwy this month - but community leaders welcome the opportunity.

Costa Coffee will close its doors on Thursday, April 25 after less than five years on Castle Street.

Toby Tunstall, chair of Conwy chamber of trade responded; "We are alsways sad to see a business close in Conwy, but there's always people looking for space to open something new. We welcome the opportunity to to have new businesses join us in the town."

Cllr Sam Cotton, mayor of Conwy agreed: "Costa was welcomed with open arms to Conwy, but as a town we are very lucky that shops don't stay closed for long - if at all.

because of the nature of shops in Conwy, perhaps this means that another independent business can come in and use the space."

A spokesperson for the chain, which opened in Conwy in January 2015, said: "As the nation’s favourite coffee shop brand, we continuously review our Costa Coffee stores and locations to ensure we’re meeting the needs of the local community.

"We can confirm that as of the 25 April 2019, the store on Castle Street, Conwy, North Wales will be closed, with all team members offered alternative employment with Costa Coffee at the store in Colwyn Bay. "We would like to apologise for the inconvenience the closure may cause customers and hope to welcome them to stores nearby.”
