A LARGE gorse fire in Gwynedd was deliberately ignited, says the North Wales Fire and Rescue service.

Appliances tackled the blaze in the Rhosgadfan area yesterday morning.

As a result, the road leading from Rhosgadfan to Waunfawr was closed.

The time of the initial call was 3.16am on Saturday morning, with four fire engines and two off-road vehicles attending.

A North Wales Fire and Rescue service spokesman said 100 square metres of gorse and bracken were on fire.

He said the cause was believed to be deliberate ignition and two seperate seats of fire were discovered.

The last appliance left at 8.15am.
