A GROUP of top chefs from across North Wales have served up more than £10,000 for Conwy families in need.

Mark Threadgill of Portmeirion Hotel; Ian Watson of Watson's Bistro Conwy; Glyn Roberts of Castle Cottage in Harlech; Bryan Webb (Michelin Star) of Tyddyn Llan and Wayne Roberts of The Manor, Gorse Hill, joined forces to raise the vital funds for Conwy Food Bank.

More than 60 guests were treated to a five-course feast to raise funds for the charity, with a different chef preparing each course.

The event was hosted by fundraising organisation Gwledd Dewi Sant and took place at The Manor.

Dishes ranged from Roasted Beetroot and Blood Orange Tart Fine, five Spice 72-hour Belly Pork, Scallop Ravioli, Shellfish Glaze to Fillet of Hake Baked with Laverbread and Herb Crust, Beurre Blanc.

Organiser of the Gwledd, Guto Lewis, director of BOCS Self-Storage in Mochdre, said: "We were really pleased to raise so much money for a fantastic cause.

"We owe special thanks to all the chefs, the food and wine suppliers and The Manor who provided the venue for free.”

On top of ticket sales for the event, more than £7,000 was raised from an auction of promises.

Prizes included tickets to this summer's Ashes cricket and Wales Rugby Six Nations.

David Lackner-Smith, chief executive of the Sanctuary Trust Cymru, which administers the food bank, said: “This is a vital donation and not only helps us to keep operating this year but will allow us to expand our reach to meet the needs of more families in need in the Conwy Borough.”

Guests were treated to award winning matching wines from Deiniol ap Dafydd at Blas ar Fwyd in Llanrwst – all provided free of charge.

Food was provided for free by Mermaid Seafood in Llandudno, Hughes’ Fruit and Veg of Llandudno and Bala butcher T J Roberts & Son.

As well as supporting Conwy Food Bank, an additional £2,400 donation was also made to this year’s National Eisteddfod, which takes place in Llanrwst in August.

This is the first time Gwledd Dewi Sant had put on an event like this. Tickets were sold to friends, organisations, business individuals and their acquaintances.

Gwledd Dewi Sant has started planning next year’s event which will include more chefs and tables.
