LLANDUDNO enjoyed a champion Easter bank holiday, with scorching sunshine drawing in record breaking numbers of visitors.

Leisure, hospitality and retailing businesses worked non stop to deal with the never ending queues for everything, it was a shopkeepers dream.

Adam Williams, owner of the Tir Prince Leisure Group, which operates Llandudno’s pier said: “We had record numbers of people on the pier over the Easter weekend. This was probably because it was the first time we have had four consecutive days of sunshine and warmth over the bank holiday.

“It was a good kick start to the rest of the season, and I think it was a good omen for the year. From what I hear visitors enjoyed themselves and are likely to want to come back here in the summer. All in all, it was a champion weekend.”

The story was repeated by other businesses in the town. Berin Jones, chairman of Llandudno Hospitality Association said: “I have had reports coming through from restaurants, bars and hotels all saying what a bumper holiday period it was. Agents such as Booking.com and Trip Adviser were stating Llandudno was full and no rooms were available, this tells a success story all on its own.

“Llandudno even proved to be an attraction to marine life as a pod of orcas visited the bay.

“When the sun comes out, as it did, it proves what the town can do. We have no reason to be anything but positive if it continues like this.

“Hotels have already reported repeat bookings.”

One hotelier said: “It was one of the best Easter holiday periods Llandudno has ever had the town was absolutely rammed full of people and there wasn’t a parking place to be had anywhere.”

Cllr David Hawkins, Mayor of Llandudno said: “It was a fantastic four days, the town was very busy and from what I hard all the cafes, restaurants and shops had a bumper time. Some of them struggled to keep pace with the demand. I'm surprised all the ice cream sellers didn't run out with all the heat.

"The beach was thronged, and from I saw everyone enjoyed themselves. I believe the hotels and guest houses are now filling up for the rest of the year. It all goes to show what Llandudno has to offer, for visitors it was the town at its best. I hope this will continue throughout the summer.

“However it did leave one headache, the amount of rubbish that was left around the place.”
