A COLWYN Bay pupil and golf star has been selected to be junior captain of a Llandudno club for the second time.

Reuben Bather, a year 11 pupil at Rydal Penrhos school, has been awarded the position at Maesdu Golf Club.

The sports scholar has enjoyed a phenomenal amount of success in recent months, which has seen him make a considerable impact on the national stage both for the school and for the Welsh U18 squad.

This included a Cardigan Trophy triumph with the national side in their annual encounter against Ireland, and the scratch handicapper shot a sensational 66 to secure the Independent Schools’ Golf Association (ISGA) Northern Open at Fleetwood Golf Club recently.

He will embark on the ISGA National Matchplay finals alongside fellow pupils Adrian Lewis and Charley Simpson.

Director of sport Allen Boyd, said: “Reuben is a fantastic ambassador for golf in North Wales, and there is no questioning his standing as one of the brightest young prospects anywhere on the continent given how much he has achieved of late.

“He is such a hard-working individual who has developed his skills and conditioning considerably during with us.”
