Plans to move a doctor’s surgery in Llandudno Junction are set to get the go-ahead.

Members of Conwy’s planning committee, meeting next week, will consider an application from Dr Mike Bloom for the surgery.

The proposal would see a change of use granted for a house at Edenholme in Glyn y Marl Road so that it could be used as a doctor’s surgery.

The current surgery is a short distance from the new site.

The opening hours of the proposed surgery would be from 8am until 8pm from Monday to Friday.

Current staff levels in the existing doctor’s surgery are three practitioners and three supporting staff and will remain unchanged in the proposed doctor’s surgery.

The application had come before members of the committee at last month’s meeting but the application was deferred so councillors could get a better understanding of parking concerns and the suitability of the site.

A report to members of the committee said: “The existing surgery, which is located towards the southerly end of Glyn y Marl Road, has limited off-street parking which increases the pressure for on-street parking spaces from visitors to the surgery.

“The availability of on-street parking is, in addition, already limited by nearby double yellow line restrictions and public parking by those resident in Glyn y Marl Road or visiting the shops or other facilities in Conway Road or Glyn y Marl Road.

“The proposed surgery, towards the northerly end, is likely to give rise to similar pressures on the availability of on-street parking, although this is mitigated to some extent by the provision of five off-street parking spaces and a lesser demand from those wishing to park and shop in Conway Road.”

The committee had been contacted 26 times by members of the public with concerns about development including fears about traffic congestion in the area and the loss of on-street parking.

But officers have told members of the committee that they think planning permission for the surgery should be granted.

The report concluded: “On balance, officers consider that the proposal is

acceptable, subject to the provision of improved parking and turning area on-site, together with Section 106 planning obligations to require the cessation of the existing doctor’s surgery use and require financial contributions to improve pedestrian facilities.”
