A NEWLY opened community bar in Glan Conwy has already had a positive impact on the community.

Y Clwb Community Bar has been opened by Janet Finch-Saunders AM, who said the bar would not have been opened but for the selflessness of others

She also noted the bar has already brought benefits to local organisations.

She said: “It would not be here today but for the selflessness of numerous individuals, businesses, Ruthin Football Club, and Llansanffraid Glan Conwy Community Council.

“In addition to providing a wonderful venue by the football pitch and with breath taking views across the Conwy estuary

"I know the bar has an aim of raising money for the community."

Mrs Finch-Saunders added: "Already, I believe, the local sports associations, Glan Conwy football club, and the youth club have benefited.”

One of the key organisers of the project, Cllr Dan Worsley, of Glan Conwy community council explained how the community had the opportunity to acquire the bar and how the project was managed and came together.

He said: “Last August Ruthin Football Club kindly donated the building to Glan Conwy Football Club provided it could be moved immediately.

"Local company Buckley’s Cranes very kindly brought the building back without charging a penny.

“The building was in a poor state with a leaking roof, collapsed ceilings and holes in the floor. However, an appeal to the community council secured a grant of £10,000 towards the refurbishment."

Cllr Dan Worsley was full of praise for local tradesmen and companies who made a commitment towards the completion of the project.

He added: "We also received significant help from Howard Vaughan, a director of Brenig Construction, Bob Paton, Dave Moore, and a series of local tradesmen.

“I am grateful to everyone who has given their support and volunteered their time and skills to get the job done.

Cllr Worsley commented of the success of the project: “The resulting transformation is staggering and is a tremendous example of what can be done when the community all pulls together.

“I am pleased to report the support and feedback from the local community continues to be very positive, and that the bar is open every day to one and all."
